Hello! Welcome to Kuwait, and if you’re not here yet, don’t fret, we’ll make sure your relocation is smooth and as stress free as possible!

When I moved to Kuwait from Germany 12 years ago, I didn't know what to expect. All I knew about Kuwait was from the news and from a few pictures I had seen on the Internet. Like most people, I expected it to be really hot and boring. Well, it is hot (in the summer) but Kuwait is anything but boring.

There are so many things to do and so many places to visit. For a country as small as Kuwait, there are so many outdoor markets, cultural events, endless dining options, desert activities and water sport facilities.

Here are some of my favorite places to eat, shop, swim and unwind.

Babel - a beautiful Lebanese fine dining restaurant

What to eat?

One of the most defining characteristics of life in Kuwait is the F&B scene. In addition to being home to the world's most famous chains, the country is known for its local concepts. Everything from burger sliders to specialty coffee shops is done better in Kuwait.

My two favorite places to eat are Babel - a beautiful Lebanese fine dining restaurant that combines innovative cuisine with breathtaking views of the Arabian Gulf and Souk Al Mubarakiya - a traditional market where you can take in the sights and sounds of the local cuisine while enjoying fresh seafood in one of the many restaurants there.

Where to shop?

The other thing that Kuwait does well are beautiful shopping experiences. Whether you are looking to indulge yourself in global brands or on the look for locally inspired fashion, Kuwait has everything. Shopping malls are destinations that offer a lot more than just retail therapy. They are perfect with the entire family, featuring dining and entertainment options for everyone.

The Avenues Mall is my absolute favorite, because it offers beautiful green walls, trees and plenty of sunlight, all of which allow you to the feeling of being outdoors, but with the comforts of air conditioning. It is the perfect getaway to escape the summer heat.

Al Shaheed Park - the country's largest urban park

How to stay active?

In addition to the many gyms and fitness that Kuwait has to offer, the country offers beautiful beach access at recreation clubs like the Al Corniche Club, a lush country club that has a wide range of activities for people of all ages.

In the winter, the desert transforms into a playground where one can go camping, star gazing or dune bashing. Families can make use of organized tours or venture out on their home.

Closer to the city, there is Al Shaheed Park, the country's largest urban park boasting beautiful architecture, sculptures and most importantly, an amazing venue for long walks and early morning jogs.

Being a country that has a long, beautiful coastline, Kuwait also has so many water sports activities to offer. These include jet skiing, water surfing, and beautiful scuba diving experiences.

What’s available for kids?

One of the most rewarding parts about living in Kuwait has been offering my two sons a safe, culturally engaging and active lifestyle. In addition to all the outdoor options available in the winter, there are venues like Discovery Mall - an entire complex that offers ice skating carting, rock climbing and a bunch of other activities.

I also want to take the opportunity here to mention that Kuwait is home to some excellent private schools. My eldest son has lived his entire life here and boasts a well rounded knowledge base, speaks multiple languages and plays several sports - something I greatly attribute to the education he has received here.

A healthy social life will be key to you enjoying your new home in Kuwait. Your friends will be your family away from home. Make sure to come with an open mind, embrace the local culture and enjoy what this small, but beautiful country has to offer.

And as always, feel free to reach out to us for any tips and recommendations.
